Finally we had time to update the list of the competitors! At the moment half of the competitors are from Finland (42 out of 83) and other half from all over. So far biggest group is coming from Germany. More queries we get every day so looks like it's gonna be quite growded once again.

So the Open Swedish Championships will be held next month in Eskilstuna, Sweden. Eskilstuna is not far from Stockholm, so it's easy to reach. More information from Finnish-Society in Eskilstuna. You can reach them by e-mail, info(a)eff-ess.com. Enterance fee is 200 SEK, which is about 22 euros. The competition starts at 10 am and should be over at 4 pm.

Another new rule! From this year long hair must be tied. So if your hair reaches above your shoulders, hair must be tied. Also hair cannot be on competitors face, because the referees must have possibility to control competitors all the time.

This year the referees will be very strict with the fact that the competitors have to answer immediately when asked that is everything ok. Just to nod your head is not enough anymore! You have to answer by showing with your thumb that everything is ok. Notice this rule when you practise.

Looks like Finland is going to have a quite good team in Stralsund, Germany next month. In finnish team will be competing Timo Kaukonen, Reijo Juopperi, Markku Mustonen, Jari Kanerva, Per-Erik Holmqvist, Bjarne Hermansson, Ari-Pekka Paavola, Leila kulin and Marjaana Teperi.

Sauna fever seems to be this year even bigger than last year. This year there will be three big sauna competitions in Europe. In July in Germany, Stralsund (Open German Sauna Championships), Business Sauna World Championships in Finland, Tuuri and finally week after that: Sauna World Championships in Heinola, Finland!

First of all: thank you to you all! A lot! Without you all - competitors, spectator, friends - this wouldn't have been the best sauna competition year ever. At the moment we have 132 competitors in mens final. Because of the timetable we have to limit number of competitors in a mens competition to 138. So we have only few places left. Unfortunately there won't be competitor from Norway after all. Also one competitor from Latvia has cancelled his trip to Heinola. One very important tip for rookies (and actually for all the competitors). DON'T USE ANY KIND OF LOTIONS BEFORE THE COMPETITION! This means the competition day and also days before the competition. Last year there was a situation, where some lotion was used day before the competition and during the competition the lotion started to boil under the skin. This meant second degree burns.

In recent days media have had more and more interest to Sauna World Championships. Anniversary competition, Matti Nykänen's performance with the band, finnish sign language translation and competitor records have been in news several times in last weeks. At the moment we have already 145 competitors, coming from 19 different countries! This is going to be huge!

There is going to be translation for deaf people in the Championships. Finnish sign language translation students Anne Ronkainen and Eveliina Jaakkola will be translating the whole weekend. Not only the competition, but also the concerts.

And now somthing about the payments. Now it is possible to pay your entrance fees with PayPal. This gives you possibility to use your credit card. Next week we will send all international competitors an e-mail with link to the PayPal site, where you can make the payment. Now it is possible to start senduing us the doctors certificates. Remember, that these forms should be dated after 9th of May! From June it will be possible to pay entrance fee with Visa Pay Pal service. When we have received entrance form, doctors certificate and payment, your name will be shown bolded. We have received few cancellations. Uta Krüger, Sabine Kriegbaum and Antje Teichmann won't compete this year in Heinola. Also former champion (years 2003-2005) Natalia Trifanava (BLR) will not compete this year. Last year she ended 6th after the dramatic final disqualification.

Now it's clear. At least a bit. There will be round number one in mens competition. This way we can take more competitors and make our event even bigger. So round number one is for the competitors with the lowest ranking among competitors. Mainly this means rookies. There will be some rookies also straight in preliminary round, but it will be lot to decide who. There will be several heats in round one. Number of competitors order how many heats there will be in round number one. From each heat two best to the preliminary round.

As you can see from the Competitors-page, the mens competition is starting to be quite crowded. Already we have almost 60 competitors signed in. In this phase we can take in 84 competitors. If we receive more entrance forms, we have to think of possibility to have 1-2 more first round heats and also make sure that all of the competitors will actually come to Heinola. Entrance form is one thing, but only paying the entrance fee and sending us the doctors certificate will certainly put you to the competition. But if you really want to the mens competition, now it's about time to send us the entrance form!

Chairman of the organization commitee, mr. Timo Ihamäki was visiting Denmark with the politicians from Heinola. During the trip they had a luch with finnish ambassador in Denmark. During their lunch mr. ambassador had several questions about Sauna World Championships. This year he unfortunately doesn't have a change to come to Heinola, but let's hope that in the near future.

Looks like there is going to be huge group from Germany coming to Heinola this year. Sure they have been here every year, but this time german sauna lovers are plannig to come to win. German television ProSieben was next german television channel, which wanted to make program about Timo Kaukonen and sauna championships. Last weekend a group from Germany came to Finland to find out howcome Kaukonen is so good and why he can stay in so long. ProSieben is Germany's second largest privately owned television company.

It's still unofficial, but we have heard some rumours, that in Varkaus, Finland there might be coming big sauna event on spring. This competition would have an official sauna competition status from the Sauna World Championships organization commitee and there would be cooperation between these competitions. In november we should heard the final decision from Varkaus and let's hope it's positive.

Last weekend there was a German Championships in Stralsund. Detlef Schneider (12:43) won the title again in mens final and Martina Scholl (10:52) was best in women's final. They both will arrive to Heinola next year to compete for the world title.

Dates for next years competition are now finally certain. We had to change the competition for next weekend in august. This way Sauna competition is not on a same weekend as World Rally Championship -competition in Jyväskylä. We are sorry for the mixup, but we promise this is the last change we make!

Timo Kaukonen visited Germany last weekend. He visited popular televisionshow Unglaublich! (Unbelievabe), where he took a sauna in 130 degrees. He stayed in for eleven minutes. Channel RTL is one of the biggest channels in Europe and the show had about six million viewers. In a same program was sauna group from Stralsund, who have visited for years now also in Heinola. For the show there was sauna brought from Stralsund, which is basicly the same sauna as the one used in Heinola.

At the moment we have received entrance forms from eleven different countries (Finland, Sweden, Swizerland, Estonia, Russia, USA, Ireland, Korea, Belorus, Latvia and Germany). Also looks quite certain, that we will get competitors from Norway, Åland, Denmark, Japan and Denmark. Also we have negotiations with competitors from Czech Republic, Austria, South Africa and China. So if everything goes well, we will have all together 20 different countries represented in Heinola! Anyway this years competition is more international than last year.

Japan television is still planning trip to Heinola and Sauna World Championships. This means that we will also have a competitor from Japan. Last time japanise television was in Heinola few years ago, when Kuzuhiko Nishio and popular television personality mr.Tsuruba were competing in Heinola.
